Everyone keeps saying how much they love this channel for how genuine it is. Which is kind of an overplayed compliment; a lot of people say that about a lot of channels. What I love about this channel, is the beautiful friendship that's clearly on display, each and every single episode. And the hilarious bizarreness of your eccentric personalities and senses of humor. It's easy to see why you two are friends. :)

@@michaellangshaw1521 I'm glad I'm not alone. Usually when I leave a comment akin to this one, I'll get criticism like "you don't need to tear other people's comments down just to prop your compliments up, you know."
Which, in theory, could hold water. They may be right. And I was honestly a bit apprehensive that I might hear it here too, lol. Happy to see that I'm not the only one that feels that way.
Basic and surface level compliments are nice, they're not unpleasant. But compliments that hit to the core of someone's character, or speak to the quality of what they make - those are the only compliments that matter. At least to me, when I receive them. So those are the same compliments that I strive to leave. :)

Same. I’ve been into knives for a long time, so I already know what i prefer in terms of features, steels, grinds, geometry, etc ; and I do my own research when looking to get a new knife, so I don’t really need their input. Finding all that for myself is part of the enjoyment for me. I don’t even baton my knives, as I always have a saw and axe with me.
I mainly watch their videos because I enjoy the lighthearted mood of their content, and their close friendship reminds me of how me and my two younger brothers are when we get together; not in terms of behavior, but in terms of closeness, and it just puts me in a better mood to watch. Also, I don’t really know many people personally who share my passion and love for fixed blade knives, but these two crazy Dutchmen definitely understand.

It instantly takes me to good memories, thinking about the times I’ve done the same thing with my bros.. laughing like idiots, usually at shit most people wouldn’t even know why it’s funny. The fact that your vg10 performed better after time is a significant sign that fällkniven overheated the edge a little but durung the sharpening process which is - sadly - kind of normal due to production speed.
While sharpening you take away material and eventually will have ground away all the overheated material. That is why it has better edge retention now

I used to buy a few knives over the years and when I saw the Idun, I too honestly thought it looked like the most beautifully aesthetic knives I had ever seen, but way beyond my budget.
However, I saved for several years and eventually purchased one!
I do bushcrafting with it, skin animals with it , even odd cutting jobs with it, and now, I simply look at other knives as if they are simply second best. Fallkniven has killed my desire to collect knives!
I have the best looking and best functioning knife that I have ever used, so why purchase any other?

Hi guys, congratulations with your channel and this super knive! My son follows your channel for years now! He made already a lot of knives himself, and adjusted the NL5 for me! For me the NL5 is the best knive, I have one myself. But there was one downside of this knive for me and that was the size of the leather handle, it was too small. I had used the NL5 for more than 8 years with the leather handle because I did not dare to change it, until, I did!! I removed the leather handle and made a wooden handle instead. We were very happy to see that you have used our content in your movie about the full tang!! 😃 That is why we made this movie ourselfs in the first place: because nobody has ever removed the leather handle. We will make another video about the handle because it is still a bit bulky, but thanks for showing some shots of our video!! Good luck and well done guys!

These stacked leather handles sure are beautiful. I don't have this one, because of the price, but I have some others in my collection. They just don't leave the house. Leather sheaths can also be beautiful but not the most practical in wet conditions. I agree that the best slicers for food prep are not the best batoning knives and vice versa, so bring two knives. The F1 was of course designed as a 'one tool option' (pilot survival knife) and they did a great job. A 'Jack of all trades', master of none. I think the same goes for the JP Peltonen M07 Ranger Puukko for those who prefer carbon steel. I bought two of them. One in desert tan and fully coated with composite sheath for my collection and one in black uncoated with composite sheath. They have a high scandi grind what I consider to be a saber grind. The F1 is smaller, lighter and an overal more compact package easy to throw in basically any bag or even in your cargo pocket. It's what I call my 'just in case knife' when I don't intent to use it (much) but still want a knife with me. The handle is too thin for my large hands for prolonged use. The M07 is a bit larger with a thicker rounded handle that could be a 'one tool option' for when I want to travel light but know I'm gonna work with it a for a prolonged time. Air force vs Army. Pilots expect to take of, stay in the air and land (not crash). Army knows they will be on the ground most of the time. Maybe you should test the M07 uncoated. I think this roll lock system is brilliant.

One thing that's possible with edge performance, is that knives that are factory sharpened on a belt grinder, the edge can sustain some amount of heat damage.
After multiple hand sharpenings on your wet stone, that damage is theoretically sharpened out. Which would explain improved performance.

    • @shawnpepin7890
      @shawnpepin7890 11 месяцев назад +1

Definitely, I noticed a huge difference in my vg10 spyderco after about 4 or 5 sharpenings… it’s honestly a huge problem with knife reviews. Most reviewers barely even sharpen their knives once, let alone the time it takes to get through the “bad steel” from the factory. It’s probably why steels like k390 get such better factory edge retention, because those types of steel don’t loose their heat treat from high temps.

Yeah I handled the cos f1. The handle was really small for xl hands. So I looked around to get a new grip for it. And notice it could cost you hundreds of dollars. Imo this the best best cheapest way to get that knife profile. I think that knife profile was absolutely amazing. It eats wood like crazy. How you like it?

@@gospelninja2.016 the feel is amazing, it's an all around great knife. Have you tried the S1x or A1x? They're great knives as well, they're essentially bigger versions of the F1x same perfect convex.

The handle made me think of a knife i haven't seen reviewed but that i'm quite curious about: the Rinaldi 240 hunting knife. Cheapest convexe you can find, and if it's as good as their axes, then it's a bargain !

tbf the vg 10 probably performed better than before because of all of your aftermarket sharpening. Grind angle has the biggest effect on edge retention outside of material choice, so you actually might have made the knife better than it could be out of the factory

It would have been nice if fallkniven soldered around the blade where it passes through the handle’s steel guard to prevent moisture entering through the seam. Many knife makers, such as Bob Dozier implement that process.

The USMC K-Bar could do with making their tang that size. It might last better than how it fell apart when you tested it.

I'd be able to get a lot more excited about this knife if the tang were twice as wide and mounted to the blade with rounded corners.
